DESCRIPTION:

The HB-250B is an antenna made for those who have no possibility of installing radials or ground planes of any kind, nor the possibility of installing an horizontal or inverted V dipole.
Sure, dipoles of 40 meters in length or verticals with a high number of radials have greater efficiency, but often you only have the possibility of a single attachment point to install an antenna, and you have to accept compromises.
In these cases the HB-250B is the only possibility to operate on a considerable amount of OM and SWL frequencies with very appreciable results even if not at the same level as much more elaborate and expensive systems.
However, the considerable length of the vertical radiator ensures adequate radiation resistance, and therefore that the signals received and transmitted are of a good level.
Furthermore, the vertical geometry of the antenna allows for low angle signals: the HB-250B is therefore also suitable for long distance connections with appreciable results.

Main Features

G-Max is the first and only vertical antenna in the world for the bands of 10 or 11m in a collinear configuration: 5/8λ over 1/4λ with high gain.

Built on the mechanics of the well-proven FE10V, this antenna has exceptional performance comparable or better than a 2 elements Yagi, but with the advantage that G-Max is omnidirectional.

G-Max does not fear comparison with any other vertical antenna on the market, whether they are 5/8 type, J-Pole, or other types on the market.

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

For our tubes we have used the best material that can be used for the construction of antennas; it is the alloy of Aluminum, Magnesium and Silicon called AW6063-T66, hardened to the state T-66. It gives the stylus an exceptional resistance, which is achieved by extrusion and then by cold-drawn.
Our tubular elements are extremely precise on both diameters, and also on the wall thickness, allowing a precise coupling with the least "play" between the tubes.
The "Ground Plane" is composed of 4 strong radials having each a length of 2.7m, "Full-Quarter Wave" made in two telescopic sections with clamp fixing, with diameter and thickness respectively 13×1.25mm and 10x1mm.
The radials are fastened to the support plate by means of two U-bolts and self-locking nuts; in the fastening area there are 4 fiberglass reinforcements that strengthen the joints and prevent crushing.

The world's only Collinear Ground Plane for 10 or 11m

Grazioli "G-Max" is a Ground Plane Collinear high gain vertical antenna type, the radiator is made of two distinct sections fed in phase through a special aluminum coil properly positioned on the whip.
The feeding is direct and takes place in the lower part of the whip that has a length of about 1/4λ, then through the phasing correction coil the RF signal goes to feed in phase also the upper part of length about 5/8λ.
The result is that the whole stylus of about 10.3m radiates in phase with a gain of almost 6dBi and a very low radiation angle (typical about 8°).
The Ground Plane is resonant with "Full Quarter Wave" radials that further enhance the performance, and reduce the radiation angle.
Made on the mechanics of the well-proven FE10V, this antenna has exceptional performance comparable or better than a 2 element Yagi, but with the advantage that G-Max is omnidirectional.

NOTE: G-Max is supplied with a 3-points guy clamp that we always recommend to install.

The phasing correction coil

The G-Max coil has been carefully placed at the ends of the two central radiating sections.
It performs three functions of extreme importance for this type of collinear antennas: 
- The first has the task of delaying by 180° the phase of the RF signal between the first section at 1/4 Lambda and the second section at 5/8 Lambda, so that the whole radiating part (whip) radiates in phase.
- The second function is to compensate for the strong capacitive reactance present on the top 5/8 section thanks to its intrinsic inductive reactance
- The third function is to transfer all the power to the top section without losses.

All this is made possible thanks to the high "Q" factor of our coil, designed to perform all three functions mentioned in the best possible way.

The UHF connector

The G-MAX connector is not a commercial SO-239 type connector as most manufacturers use. The connector was designed and built directly by us, has a real impedance of 50 Ohm and can be used up to 500 MHz. The goal was to create a reliable connector capable of withstanding 5 kW CW continuous at 30 MHz.

The body is made of CW614N nickel-plated brass, while the pin is plated in 24K gold to avoid oxidation and equipped with a 4-fin insulator that maintains its centering and elasticity, avoiding contact losses.

The insulating part is made of PTFE which is one of the best insulating materials due to its exceptional electrical (low dielectric constant, and reduced loss factor) and thermal (operating temperature from -100 ° to + 260 °) and is protected from a special elastomer cap that prevents water and humidity infiltration.

The fixing bracket

Made of 2.5mm thick AISI304 stainless steel, it is fixed to the antenna tube by means of a clamp closure system, creating an extremely strong mechanical locking.

Fixing to the mast is made with AISI304 M6 V-Bolt and high type nuts to facilitate tightening.

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

For our tubes we have used the best material that can be used for the construction of the antennas; it is the aluminium, magnesium and silicon alloy called AW6063-T66, hardened to the T-66 state. It gives the stylus exceptional resistance, which is achieved by extrusion and subsequently cold drawn.
Of extremely robust construction, the central stem uses tubes with a diameter of 42x2mm at the base, and a diameter of 19x1.25mm at the tip, while the lateral stubs and the radials of the ground plane are made of telescopic tubes with a diameter of 13 and 10mm.
The ground plane is formed by 4 horizontal radials about 2.7m long, and the vertical stubs are held in position by 3 crosspieces, the first connected to the base of the stylus is made of rectangular section aluminum tubes machined with CNC machines, and the other 2 in thermoplastic material, one with 4 arms in the middle part, and one with 2 arms in the upper part.
All the screws are made of stainless steel, the pipes are fixed with sturdy quality AISl-316 stainless steel clamps, the brackets, the screws, and the U-bolt and V-bolt U-bolts are in AISl-304 stainless steel.

A performing and robust antenna with the standards of the Grazioli brand

The basic idea was to create an efficient antenna, without the use of traps which reduce its efficiency, and without the use of impedance transformers which limit the applicable power.
Starting from these assumptions, we have created MV6, which by using parallel resonant elements (stubs) to the central whip, have allowed us to create an efficient antenna on all covered bands.

A high performance multiband

The stylus is composed of a central radiator for the lowest band of 20m flanked by 4 side stubs that resonate on the highest bands 17,15,12,10 + VHF 6m. The side stubs are a full 1/4 wave long with no traps that would reduce their efficiency. The antenna is powered directly without the use of adapters or impedance transformers which would introduce losses and limit the applicable power, it is equipped with a high impedance inductance which creates a DC short circuit, dispersing to ground any disturbances caused by atmospheric events and/or electrostatic discharges.
The calibration is carried out by adjusting the telescopic parts of the stubs and the central stylus, each frequency is independent and does not give interactions on the other bands, except for the 17m band which also determines the resonance of the 6m: We recommend the use of a d Rig-Expert or Nano VNA type graphic antenna which makes calibration much easier.

NOTE:
If used in very windy areas, bracing with NON-conductive cables using the washer supplied is recommended.
It is recommended to use a CHOKE (not supplied) to be installed immediately under the connector to avoid possible RF feedback on the coaxial.

The UHF Connector
The connector is non-commercial SO-239 as used by most manufacturers. The connector was designed and manufactured directly by us, has a real impedance of 50 Ohm and can be used up to 500MHz. We have created a connector that is reliable and able to withstand the transit of 5 kW CW continuous at 30MHz and more than 3 kW at 50MHz.

THE CHOICES THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Why build an antenna capable of withstanding continuous power of 3 kW?
Because an antenna that accepts high powers is a more efficient antenna, otherwise it would tend to heat up due to the Joule effect and dissipate a significant part of the applied RF power in heat, which happens with most competing products, but which unfortunately users cannot test due to lack of adequate equipment and instruments.

The high "Q" L-C matching circuit

For this product we have created a special parallel L-C circuit to be able to adapt the high impedance that this type of antenna has when fed to the base. The high Q coil is generously sized, suspended in air without metal cores, with widely spaced coils. The coaxial type variable capacitor (similar to a Gamma Match) placed next to the coil is made with PTFE insulation. It is capable of withstanding extremely high voltages above 40 KV, is not affected by ambient temperature, rain or humidity, and does not heat up if subjected to high powers; in addition it allows a simple and convenient calibration at the base of the antenna.
During the development of the matching circuit we had to carefully adjust both the inductance (L) and the capacitance (C) to obtain a truly efficient, reliable and criticality-free circuit. All these measures translate into high efficiency, and the ability to withstand RF power up to 3 kW continuous all-mode.
NOTE:
The coil is directly connected to direct current (DC-Ground). In this way atmospheric and impulsive disturbances are significantly reduced.
